Innately Empowered: Done for You Substack Setup Case Study

Done-for-you Substack setup case study: wellness coach Nely of Innately Empowered

Client overview

Innately Empowered is a holistic health practice led by Nely, a wellness coach and integrative practitioner based in London, UK.

Nely helps women understand their symptoms, release stored stress and rebuild steady, sustainable energy through nervous system work, bioenergetics and holistic support.

She came to me for a done-for-you Substack setup that would give her practice a clear digital home and create a stronger connection between her content, her brand and her client offers.

The project took place over one month. We began with a goal-setting and positioning session, followed by a focused collaborative working day where we completed the majority of the strategic and creative build. I then refined the copy, completed the setup and prepared the publication for ongoing growth.

The aim was to create a Substack that felt credible, cohesive and easy for the right readers to navigate—not simply a place to publish occasional newsletters.

The challenge

When Nely came to me, her Substack had three posts and then a hard stop.

There was no welcome email, no About page, no clear brand system and no obvious path for a reader to work with her. The publication existed, but it was not yet functioning as part of her wider wellness business.

The main problem was not the number of posts. It was the lack of structure behind them.

A new reader could not immediately understand:

  • Who Nely helps.

  • What problems she supports them with.

  • What makes her approach different.

  • What they should do next.

  • How the Substack connects to her wider practice.

Nely wanted a Substack that could:

  • Be set up for her without requiring her to become a platform specialist.

  • Communicate clearly with women navigating chronic symptoms, fatigue and burnout.

  • Establish her credibility as a wellness coach and integrative practitioner.

  • Create a calm and cohesive brand experience.

  • Guide readers towards one clear next step.

  • Give her a repeatable system for publishing consistently.

The brief was to turn a stalled newsletter into a branded business platform that could grow an email audience, build trust and guide the right readers towards Nely’s support.

Results

Over the course of one month, Innately Empowered went from three stalled posts to a complete, branded Substack ready to support the business.

The project included:

  • One goal-setting and positioning session.

  • One focused collaborative working day.

  • A branded Substack homepage.

  • Three supporting pages: About, Work With Me and Resources.

  • Two welcome emails for free and paid subscribers.

  • A reusable newsletter essay template.

  • A free tool connected to Substack.

  • A clear reader-to-client journey.

  • A 90-day content plan.

  • Final copy, setup and implementation refinements.

The result was a publication that felt cohesive, professional and ready to grow.

Following the relaunch, Notes that had previously received little engagement began attracting meaningful likes and restacks during the first week. More importantly, Nely now had the structure and content system needed to continue publishing without having to start from scratch each time.

How the project worked

The project combined strategy, collaborative development and done-for-you implementation.

We started by clarifying the role the Substack needed to play within the business. We then used a focused working day to make the key positioning, branding and structural decisions together.

After that session, I completed the remaining copy, page setup, welcome emails, newsletter framework and content planning over the rest of the month.

This approach gave the project focus and momentum while allowing enough time for thoughtful decisions, revisions and final implementation.

1. Goal setting session

Before working on colours, layouts or page copy, we clarified what Nely wanted the Substack to achieve.

We established:

  • Who the primary reader is.

  • What they are experiencing.

  • What they are searching for.

  • What kind of support they need.

  • What Nely wants to be known for.

  • What action a reader should take after discovering the publication.

This helped us create a more specific position for women navigating fatigue, unexplained symptoms, chronic stress and burnout.

Rather than presenting Innately Empowered as another general wellness publication, we shaped the messaging around nervous-system-led support for women who want to understand their symptoms and rebuild sustainable energy.

This positioning informed the homepage, About page, welcome emails, content plan and calls to action.

2. Substack homepage set up and brand identity design

The Substack homepage became the central entry point to the brand.

We created a visual identity that reflected the grounded, regenerative nature of Nely’s work, including:

  • Three consistent brand colours.

  • A cohesive visual direction.

  • Clear homepage messaging.

  • A positioning statement above the fold.

  • One primary call to action.

  • Social proof and personal story.

  • A simple and calming page structure.

The purpose of the branding was not simply to make the publication look attractive. It was to create a sense of trust and recognition.

A new reader should feel that they have arrived at an established wellness practice—not an unfinished newsletter account.

The homepage now gives visitors a clearer understanding of who Nely helps, how she works and where they can explore further support.

3. Clear path to increase substack subscibers and bookings

We created three supporting pages:

  • About.

  • Work With Me.

  • Resources.

Each page has a clear purpose, but they all connect to the same primary reader journey.

Instead of giving visitors several unrelated options, the publication guides them from understanding Nely’s approach towards exploring her main offer.

The journey became:

Discover the Substack→Understand the approach→Build trust→Explore support

Substack About, Work With Me and Resources pages built to turn readers into subscribers and coaching enquiries

This is what turns a Substack into more than a blog.

A reader can arrive on different parts of the publication and still understand who Nely helps, what she offers and what to do next.

4. Substack Welcome email set up and strategy

We replaced the default Substack welcome experience with two intentional emails:

  • One for free subscribers.

  • One for paid subscribers.

Each welcome email was written in Nely’s voice and designed to help new readers understand:

  • Who she is.

  • What Innately Empowered stands for.

  • What they can expect from the publication.

  • Where they should begin.

  • How they can explore her support.

Both emails also direct readers back to Nely’s website and core services.

The welcome email is often a subscriber’s first direct experience of a publication. Instead of using it as a simple confirmation message, we used it to deepen trust, introduce Nely’s approach and create a natural connection to the wider business.

This gave the Substack a more intentional subscriber journey from the beginning.

5. Created a free tool to increase subscriber sign ups

Created a free tool to increase subsriber sign ups

We created a free tool for the specific women Nely supports and connected it directly to her Substack.

The tool was designed to:

  • Attract relevant new subscribers.

  • Give readers an immediate and useful experience.

  • Introduce potential clients to Nely’s approach.

  • Create a natural pathway towards her coaching and wellness offers.

The journey became:

Free tool→Substack subscription→Welcome email→Relevant support

This meant the free resource was not separate from the business. It connected the audience, the publication and the main offer.

6. Newsletter and readers design journey

We created a reusable newsletter structure so Nely could publish more consistently without reinventing every issue.

Each essay follows a simple framework:

  1. Opening hook.

  2. Grounding context.

  3. Story, example or teaching.

  4. Key insight.

  5. One clear call to action.

The template gives every newsletter a consistent reader experience while allowing Nely’s personality and ideas to come through.

It also ensures that each piece of content has a clear purpose within the wider reader journey.

For readers, the structure builds familiarity. For Nely, it reduces the friction between having an idea and turning it into a finished newsletter.

7. A repeatable system and 90‑day content plan

A done-for-you Substack setup should not end when the pages are live.

To make the publication sustainable, we created a 90-day content plan that Nely could follow and adapt.

The plan includes:

  • Educational content about nervous system health.

  • Story-led writing from Nely’s own experience.

  • Content addressing common reader concerns.

  • Posts designed to build trust and authority.

  • Gentle invitations into her wellness offers.

The content plan gives her a clear direction for the next three months, so she no longer has to sit in front of a blank page wondering what to write.

It also creates a foundation for building topical authority and helping readers understand the different ways she can support them.

Final Thoughts

Innately Empowered went from a stalled Substack with three posts to a complete, branded publication that could support the wider wellness practice.

Most importantly, the Substack no longer sat separately from the business.

It became a central platform for communicating Nely’s ideas, building trust with potential clients and guiding the right readers towards her support.
